”I had always wanted to have a go at pole dancing and never had the courage to go for it, until 2 years ago…I found DG Pole online, booked in for a one2one…and have never looked back!
I started in the winter and loved it so much I signed up to a few batches of 8 week classes. I run my own company called Board Games (www.boardgamesurfing.com) which does surfing and stand up paddle boarding (SUP) adventures on the coast in our lovely Pembrokeshire, which meant that when the spring arrived it was hard to get to class…so I brought a pole and made sure I kept my skills up at home! Over the summer I am busy out on the water coaching clients in the skills they need to enjoy going for adventures…but my pole dancing love didn’t leave me ( and there were many times I would think about the possibility of poling on the beach or on a board!).
As soon as winter came round again I was signing back up for classes as I missed the support, help, fun and encouragement that you get from all the girls! It has been a fantastic addition to my training that sometimes feels a bit “boring”- swimming, cycling etc..but pole is waaaaay too much fun to be real exercise! Seeing you are getting closer to your pole goals is such an awesome feeling.
Being in the advanced class this winter has pushed my skills and made my love for pole grow….practice is the key and some days it hurts, but that is soon put to the back of your memory when you pull off an amazing spinny upsidedownyness move! And then there is the fact that it makes me feel freeeeee, spinning about, hanging upside down…when do you get to do that as a grown up?!!
So as you can see I LOVE POLE…it makes me smile

”Being a member of Defy Gravity means so much to me. Jamie is an excellent teacher; she really cares and is always available to offer advice and support. There are plenty of classes to choose from so whether you want to improve your fitness or enhance your sex appeal there is a class to suit. The other members are truly awesome - these women are friendly, fun, helpful and inspiring. Best of all, age, class, fitness level, body shape - none of these things matter. Inclusivity is what it is all about.

”This is without fail the best thing I've done for myself 🙂 as one who is large and in charge, chunky yet funky, I can say that this is the only fun I have ever had with fitness! I now have strength I didn't think possible and a confidence I previously thought laughable, if you think you're too big/old/generally unfit for this that is lunacy ^_^ It's 100% comfortable to be in the studio and judgement free, thank you Jamie (and all the other sexy students at DG) you super legends!

”Well, what has Defy Gravity done for me...it has made me sexier, love my body more, give me muscles and skills I never thought I would have. It has put me in touch with my inner sensual self, it has made me belong to an epic tribe of wonderful women..and men...it is like a secret club that everyone should be a part of...let yourself go, be wild, be free and spin on a pole, upside down, sideways, on the floor, whatever...but be you! If you think "I can't do it", just give it a try, you might just love it...and then become addicted to it...the instructors are awesome, supportive and have so much knowledge and truly inspiring too...just go sign up if you haven't already, it is worth it 🙂 Big love to Defy Gravity for all you have done...you rock my world!

”I only joined Defy Gravity in January this year but already I can feel that I've grown stronger and gained more confidence in myself. I can actually get fit doing something I love! Doing pole has definitely taught me the importance of a strong core and how to use muscles I've never felt before. As I have a bad back I didn't think I could do something like this but through DG, and their excellent teaching, I am able to go at my own pace and create my own style. The choreography aspects in the beginners classes has made me feel like I have a lot more control over my body and I really enjoy the dance side. The classes are a great form of fitness as well as being fun and the variance in classes keeps it interesting and challenging; I never knew how to properly stretch out my body until I took part in an ultra flex class, and found that the deep stretching helped a lot with nerve pain I had. I wholly envy Jamie's flexibility and have the utmost respect for her for helping me do something I've always wanted to do but never had the confidence.

”I wanted a way to get fit again after having my baby that wasn’t a conventional gym. I’ve tried them before and they just didn’t give me the motivation or drive to continue and you always feel judged when trying to figure things out on your own.

I thought I’d give pole a try and if I didn’t like it I didn’t have to stay but MY GOD did I enjoy it.
It’s the exact opposite of a my experiences with other fitness options. I feel motivated and look forward to my classes every week it’s also an amazing community that never judges each other and I don’t think any of us ever feel pressured to improve at the same rate as others. There are things the others can do that I still still struggle with but then things I find comfortable and easy that they are still trying to get AND THATS COMPLETELY OKAY!! Jamie has small personable groups that mean she can focus on helping each student in what they are struggling with and we all just get closer and hype each other up and when one of us gets something it’s a group achievement that just motivated the rest of us even further.
I’m amazed at how far I have come since starting and things that seemed impossible at the start are now my favourite things to do and I definitely can’t wait to see how much further we can all go xx
”I was looking for a fun and energetic class where I could also get fit and strong. Pole seemed like it would tick the boxes and help me find myself again after having kids. I was apprehensive as dancing isn't my strong point. I was not expecting the camaraderie, absolute acceptance and tonnes of belly laughs. It's such a joy. Jamie elevates her students, empowers us and makes us believe in ourselves. That's why I've stayed. The benefits to my fitness, core and strength are just added bonuses.

”My friend told me about Jamie at least 11 years ago. She went to classes, it sounded wonderful. But with young children living an hour away it didn't happen.

So with me after quite a year of my mother passing away, a marriage break up, i needed something for me, now a single mum I joined.
And I love it, I actually thought i will only go for a couple classes, just to see but I was hooked. It makes me feel empowered, strong & sexy with confidence.
I love to train anyway but the benefits I have seen with pole is amazing the strength, my body shape, core & determination. It's an all rounder & Its wonderful ♥
”I’d always wanted to try pole dance, but I’d been too young and then once I’d moved to Pembs I didn’t think there would be a studio here and I have bad social anxiety. My friend had been coming to lessons and mentioned it during a lockdown chat and I excitedly nagged her to get me onto a beginners session and made her come with me to the beginners session so I had someone to talk to. 😂 Now you can’t shut me up.

”I saw two polers perform back in 2002 (at a porn convention in Brighton I attended on a whim!). They changed my idea pf what pole dancing actually was and I admired the strength and skill and wished I could do similar. Moved back to Pembs in 2009 and found the studio existed not long after....but took me another 8 years to pluck up the courage to get in touch. Was late for my first class because of traffic and couldn't go in because my anxiety was too bad so sat in my car and cried instead. Still went back the next week and have been hanging around ever since. Xx

I would add Jamie, that I've found both you and the Studio genuinely non-judgemental. Might be in my 40s now but I'm still carrying a bunch of emotional shit around from childhood/teens/20s because I never "fit" and other girls/women in particular made it blatantly clear that I didn't belong. And 99% of the time I didn't have a clue what I was doing wrong. I never ever got that sense in the Studio,
”DG is a safe place for me to feel feminine, sexy and confident.. after having 4 children, my last 2 being close together and both c section I felt I had lost all my confidence. I needed someone, somewhere and something that would fuel my fire again and have something that I could make my own, something for me. It ticked all the boxes for me. It was local, it was an opportunity for me to meet others, opened my mind to individuality, passion and love for myself and my new body. I felt so disconnected with myself but now after 18 months of being part of DG.. I've made some real progress in learning to love myself again.

”I saw your post about "the elephant in the room" so decided to give it a try, I remember making some joky comment about my weight close to the beginning and the whole group shut it down , that's when I realised nobody at DG gives a crap about size, shape, whatever. It's all about turning up, giving it a try, and supporting each other, and that's why I got a membership.
Also, if you ask for twerks, there will be twerks!

”There are 2 reasons that came to mind as to why I joined Defy Gravity.
1. Being in an objective, logical, and academical career, I was looking for something where I could explore, develop, and cultivate my creative side.2. I am not a big fan of conventional exercise, I find it gets mundane at some point. I don't have the knees for running and lack the motivation to attend crowded gyms.
After expressing this to a former colleague of mine, she swiftly referred me to Defy Gravity, and the rest is history.
Mondays are now my favourite days cause I get to pole. I have a pole at home, but it doesn't beat going to classes. It's hard to put my finger on what brings me back week after week. Is it the dim ambient lighting? The people from different walks of life I wouldn't normally interact with gathering in the evenings before and after class in the kitchen? The fact that you can feel undeniably free of any judgement while challenging yourself learning a new skill, building strength and confidence physically and mentally?
You'll have to just sign up and find out for yourself.
